PUBLIC OPENING OF TENDERS
Drainage Board’s New Policy
The Christchurch Drainage Board, which was the first local body in Christchurch to institute the public opening of tenders for big contracts, fixed its policy for the opening of tenders last evening.
Where contracts are of a routine nature, tenders will continue to be opened in committee at board meetings, as at present, and after 24 hours to enable them to be checked and letters of acceptance posted, the full range of tenders will be released to all tenderers and the newspapers. ‘‘The public opening of tenders for the construction of the oxidation ponds was a forward move and occasioned much favourable comment,” said a special committee. "The committee feels that a similar course could well be considered in future when calling tenders for work of a size and nature likely to arouse public interest, such as the construction of a major trunk sewer.”
