Tariffs To Replace Controls On Imports
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 26. Mr Nordmeyer, the Minister of Finance, announced tonight that the Government had decided to introduce a measure of tariff protection to ensure New Zealand industry a reasonable measure of protection against the time when import control might not apply. Mr Nordmeyer said it was not possible this, year to introduce a complete tariff revision. Because the tariff was out of date, it was desirable that an entirely new tariff be introduced, and that would be done next year. However, a start would be made this year, and those industries needing a measure of protection would be protected.
