Talking In Theatre
Sir, —It was a pity that Saturday night’s performance of Bach’s "St. Matthew Passion” should have been marred for some of the audience by the lack of consideration shown by a few persons who persisted in making inane comment during one of the solos. A further disturbance wai caused in the vestibule from where loud conversations were heard through the closed door. Surely the days when people attended the theatre merely to be seen are past. Perhaps we should suggest that when the new Town Hall is built it should have boxes so that those who wish to indulge in social chatter may do so without interfering with the enjoyment of others. —Yours, etc., F.McK., K. 0., and V.C.
