Anderton Stable Has Strong Riverton Team

"The Press’ Special Service

DUNEDIN, April 12.

H. A. Anderton left today with his team of 10 horses for the Riverton Easter meeting. They include the Great Western candidate. Delarmo. The stable has won this event four times since Timber Topper took it in the colours of his trainer in 1945. Unbeaten in his four races over country last jumping season, including two successes over the Riverton country, Delarmo has come through a sound preparation in spite of a weak ligament. His schooling has been of a high standard and his preparation was rounded off by two races on the flat. He will be ridden by the stable horseman. G. E. Lowry. Bay Fella, the stable candidate for the Waiau Steeplechase, and Linton were not included in the team. Bay Fella did not work to the satisfaction of his trainer on Monday. Linton ran a good race to deadheat for third in the Heriot Stakes at Beaumont, but he is being given plenty of time and has been put aside. With Chief Cashier, the stable will have a proved "chaser for the Riverton Steeplechase on the second day. This is an event which Delarmo won last year. With proved gallopers on the flat like Ben Ledi, Promise. Ultra. Subside and the last-start winner. Ravelston, the stable should have a successful campaign.

J. W. Pankhurst has had to split his team, with six going to Riverton and the other two to Riccarton. Montrose will fulfil his engagement in the Riverton Cup and he will be ridden bv D. N Hadfield. He may go to Riccarton on Sunday. Montrose was the unlucky runner at Oamaru last month, when he’ was runner-up in the highweight on both days of the meeting. His performances stamped

him as being at the top of his form and if the track suits him on Saturday he could surprise in the feature flat race. Tut Tut will start in the Great Western in preference to the Hack Steeples. He will be ridden by the successful stable apprentice, B. N. Blair, who will then go to Riccarton to ride Vaper. Tut Tut won the Gardner Memorial at the Birchwood Hunt meeting last year and was sent out second favourite in the Great Western. He lost his rider after disputing the lead for two miles. On the second day he finished a good second to Delarmo in the Riverton Steeples. Dashing Jumper

He is a dashing jumper and with luck in the running he could take a race on this trip south. Panel should show the benefit of her race at Beaumont. She is engaged in the Pouakino mile on the first day McGregor will also represent the stable in this event. He has been a disappointment in his most recent races in hack class, but with a big relief in the weights he could show a return of the form which gave him third place behind Great Sensation and Cheyenne in the James Hazlett G“old Cup at weight-for-age at the Dunedin meeting in December.

Depend is in line for a win in maiden class after his second to Bright Six in the Heriot Stakes at Beaumont. Panam is a promising hack stayer, which finished second to Underarm at Beaumont. Vaper, which has been unplaced in only three of his 20 races this season, will be worth following at Riccarton. where he is engaged in the Opawa High-weight on Monday and the hurdle events on the later days Our Heritage failed at Beaumont and will miss his Riverton Cup engagement. He will start in the Merivale Hack Handicap at Riccarton, a course on which he raced well at the New Zealand Cup meeting. A. I. Powell left for Riverton on Tuesday with a team of four. Bold Venture and Mighty Robin were left at home.

Mary Dee- ricked herself while working last week and this is likely to prevent her Riverton trip. Her trainer. H. J. Powell, will have the hack steeplechaser Le Roi at the meeting. From the way he has been working it would not be surprising if he won one of the minor events.
