£60m Profit For Unilever
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. The giant Unilever group of companies made a total consolidated net profit of £ 60.1 m sterling in 1959. Unilever’s Australian subsidiary owns McNiven Bros., Ltd., and has made an offer for Street Ice Cream, Ltd. ♦ The profit compares with £47.2m in 1958 and is struck after providing £ 55.8 m for taxation (£46m in 1958). Turnover rose from £ 1728 m to £ 1787 m and trading profit from £91.7m to £113.4«n. Directors say that the company has sold all its quick-freez-ing interests in Australia. In New Zealand, the “Birds Eye” business was going through a difficult time. In the field of soup mixes, competition was strong In most countries, but the company had a good year in Australia.
