MELBOURNE STUDENTS
300 Asked To End Courses (WX Pros Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, April 8. About 300 Melbourne University students have been asked to discontinue their courses after 800 failed every subject in the last annual exams, the ViceChancellor (Sir George Paton) said today. The remaining SOO had been given another chance, he said. About 8500 students sat for an average of three or four subjects each in the examinations. Some did 12 subjects. There was a slightly higher pass rate—B3 per cent titan last year. Nearly 5500 students passed in all subjects, 2000 passed in some and 800 failed in every one. Pass rates in science, medicine, arts, commerce, journalism and education were lower than in 1958, though there were improved results in architecture, engineering, physical education, social studies, law' and public administration.
