Rugby HARLEQUINS DRAW AT TIMARU
14-14 In Match With South Canterbury (New Zealand Press Association) TIMARU, April 10. A Harlequins' team, made up mainly of players who will be taking part in the All Black trials next week-end, was held to a 14-14 draw by South Canterbury at Fraser Park today. Both teams were surprisingly fit for early season Rugby, but play was not as open as is usually expected from these games. Strong cover defence and some poor handling on both sides resulted in few movements being completed. South Canterbury took the lead early in the game, and it was not until five minutes before time that Burry scored a try to even the scores.
For the Harlequins, R. Smith (2). Watt and Burry scored tries, one of which was converted by Henderson. J. Creighton, R. Nolan and J. Ellery scored tries for South Canterbury Watson converted one try and kicked a penalty. The teams were:—
