LONDON OFFICER PROPOSED
Gaining Of Pioneer Material (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 10. The appointment of an historical affairs officer in London to obtain New Zealand pioneer material when it became available was urged by the director of the Canterbury Museum (Dr. R. S. Duff) at the annual conference of the Art Galleries’ and Museums’ Association of New Zealand. The conference, by resolution, expressed its conviction of the need for an officer or officers to be attached to the office of the New Zealand High Commission in London to facilitate the discovery and acquiring of material of cultural interest in the Dominion, particularly ethnographical and early colonial material., The conference also agreed to support strongly the New Zealand Library Association in its efforts to have expert officers attached to New Zealand House in London and in Washington, to facilitate the purchase of New Zealand historical manuscripts and related materials. The conference agreed, too, to renew its representations to have the Maori Antiquities Act amended to check the drift of historical material from New Zealand. •
