£600 AN ACRE FOR FARMLAND
14 Acres Sold Near Hastings (New Zealand Press Association) HASTINGS, April 10. Hawke’s Bay had a record auction sale.jif farming land on Friday when about 14 acres realised £6OO an acre. Hastings land agents believe the price may also be a New Zealand record. G. L. Thom, a market gardener, of Ormond road, Hastings, bought the land which was one of three lots, totalling 53 acres. The vendors were the trustees in the estate of the late Mr Richard Tattersail. Mr H. G. Marshall, of Whakatu, another market gardener, bought another lot of about 10 acres for £550 an acre. The third lot, of about 29 acres with the homestead and outbuildings, was passed in at £472 10s an acre.
The land is on the Heretaunga plains, five miles from Hastings.
Drifter Leaves Auckland.— Mr J. P. Moore, the yachtsman who was lost at sea for six fhonths, sailed from St Mary’s Bay, Auckland, for Wellington, in his yacht Drifter on Saturday.—(P.A.)
