COMPLAINT ABOUT NOISE
Council Wants More Evidence People living at Hillsborough have complained in a letter to Heathcote County Council about the noise made by a scrap metal plant in Port Hills road, but the council wants more evidence about the noise before taking any action.
The council decided this at its meeting last evening, but also decided to pass the complaint to the scrap metal firm, Industrial Metals, Ltd. The letter of complaint, from Hillcote Improvement Society, said the noise was a nuisance and had not lessened since the matter was last raised a year ago. The county chairman (Mr R. A. Young) said: “I had hoped that this situation would have been better.”
He said a local body could not take any action unless it was satisfied the noise w r as a public nuisance. This meant that the noise was bad enough to “affect people’s health or comfort.”
