Motor Racing Two Killed At Sebring

Press Association — Copyright) SEBRING (Florida), March 26.| Jim Hughes, of the United States, driving a Lotus Elite, and George Palmer Thompson, a Florida newspaper photographer, were killed today when a car overturned on a hairpin turn in the 12-hour Sebring sports car endurance race. The accident occurred in the first 30 minutes of the race. Hughes, aged 29, a foreign car dealer, is the father of three children. He began racing in 1943 and has won several races The car ran off the track as it went into the 120-degree turn. It shot back on to the track and then raced off again. The car flipped into the air, turning over and landing on the photographer who was near the track. Hughes was thrown out of the car as it flipped over. O. Gendebiem, of Belgium, and H. Hermamn, of Germany, in a Porsche, had a surprise victory in the race.
