Obituary MR J. DIXON
(New Zealana Press Association; DUNEDIN, January 20 Mr James Dixon, who was widely known in New Zealand, and overseas for his musical activities, particularly those connected with brass bands, died in Dunedin this morning. He was 70. Mr Dixon was manager of Charles Begg and Company for 18 years from 1936 until he retired in 1954.
Mr Dixon’s colourful connection with brass bands went back to his youth. One of his proudest memories was of leading a New Zealand contingent in the First World War over the Rhine bridge into Germany. During the 13 years he was conductor of the St. Kilda band it won many championships. He also judged at many band contests throughout New Zealand, both national and provincial.
