COMMONWEALTH EXERCISE
H.M.X.Z.S. PukakiTo Take Part
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 20.
The Royal New Zealand Navy will be represented in “Jet 60.” this year’s annual Commonwealth maritime exercise in the Far East. The frigate H.M.N.Z.S. Pukaki. at present on the Fast East station, will join 50 warships from seven Commonwealth countries, and aircraft from four.
Announcing this today the Minister of Defence (Mr Connolly) said the exercise was the tenth in the series and the largest so far. Ships and aircraft from the United Kingdom. India. Pakistan, Ceylon. Malaya. Australia and New Zealand would take part and the exercises will range across the Bay of Bengal, the approaches to Cochin. Karachi. Singapore and Trincomalee.
