Shipping Company’s Criticism
The production oi, the district served by the port of Tauranga had far outgrown the shore facilities, said Mr H H. Dobie. chairman of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., in his annual report to shareholders this week Tauranga continued to be a serious source of delays, necessitating the holding of vessels in Auckland or in the roadstead outside the port, he said Difficulties had been accentuated by the introduction of fertiliser works, flour mills and oil tanks before nrovision had been made for ad®iwa’e berthage
‘‘The port authorities should not overlook that the port at "fount Maunganui would not exist but for the development of the timber and paper industry and *he first consideration should be the export of those commodities.' 1 Mr Dobie said The published Intention of the Tasman Pulp and Paper Company to double its output made it necessary for his company to build additional vessels, Mr Dobie said, but more vesseL would be useless if shore facilities lagged.
