CONFERENCE ON KENYA

“Profound Policy Differences”

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, January 17.

Difference of policy between the parties taking part in the Kenya Conference which opens in London tomorrow were still profound, ‘‘The Times” said in an editorial. The conference, which is expected to last about three weeks, will consider the constitutional future of the British East African colony. “The Times” said discussions could be expected to range freely and widely.

‘‘The Times” said that Mr Michael Blundell, who would represent the new Kenya Party, thought that a time-table of emancipation was possible, but could not be further hastened—as some other parties demanded—without a revolution in the present relationship between races. The party stood for a commonroll franchise, which is thought workable only if supported by all races. But it wished to preserve British control until all were ready for a representative parliamentary system.
