Hunter Cup To Sibelia
Sibelia, a half-sister to Petite Yvonne, one of the best mares raced in New Zealand in recent years, gained her thirty-fourth win in the A. G. Hunter Cup at Melbourne on Saturday. She started second favourite at 7 to 4 and paced the 14 furlongs in 3min 44 2-ssec, a new track record. She beat Maestro’s Melody (8 to 1) by a yard with five yards to Kiwi Dillon (12 to 1). Dusty Miller, the 5 to 4 favourite, finished fourth after being pocketed all the way. The Christchurch-owned Suzendy finished seventh, with the Auckland-owned Derive, eighth.
