AUCKLAND, January 19. The forty-fourth New Zealand croquet championships commenced today in perfect weather. The president of the Auckland association (Mrs H. Purdy) welcomed visitors and formally handed over the lawns to Mrs A G Rawlinson (Methven), president of the New Zealand Croquet Council, who officially opened the tournament.
