Four Youths Sentenced

(Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, January 13.

Four youths, who laughed and swaggereji when first brought into Court on murder charges last vear. broke down and sobbed today when they were sentenced to long prison terms The youths, members of a Brooklyn gang called the “Mau Mau,” were charged after another youth was shot to death outside an amusement arcade in Brooklyn last February 12.

Carl Cintron, aged 16, who admitted having fired the fatal shot had pleaded guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life in gaol. The other three had. pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree manslaughter and were given five years each They are Carlos Rayes, aged 17, Melvin Torres aged 16. and Israel Narvaez, aged 17 When first charged, the four youths had laughed in Court and waved at their weeping parents. Cintron, wearing a jaunty Tyrolean hat, boasted of his membership in the “Mau Mau.”

The slain boy was Anthony Labanchino, aged 17. Police said he was killed in retaliation for having beaten up a “Mau Mau” member who had escorted his 13-year-old sister home.
