INDIA AND PAKISTAN
Settlement Of Disputes (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NEW DELHI, January 11. India and Pakistan moved a step closer today when they signed an agreement settling four out of five outstanding disputes on the western border between the two countries. Another agreement signed by India and Pakistan Army commanders attending a week-long conference in New Delhi will ease tension on the long western border, enabling India to move some of the troops now guarding the 1200-mile frontier with West Pakistan and deploy them along the northern border with Tibet and China.
An agreement on disputes on the eastern frontier between India and Pakistan was signed last October.
The only remaining border dispute between the two countries concerns Kutch, an area on the southern-most sector of the western frontier. Both sides have agreed to meet and discuss this later.
