CRITICISM OF UNIVERSITY

64 Anglican Bishop

Insulted”

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) HOBART, January 12.

The University of Tasmania had shown readiness to “ride roughshode over every human decency” in its behaviour towards the Anglican Bishop of Tasmania (Dr. Cranswick) over the Professor Orr case, four leading Tasmanian churchmen said in a joint statement last night. The university had insulted the bishop and his office by its effrontery in summoning him to appear before a committee, the statement said. “They tried to handle Dr. Cranswick in exactly the same way as they treated Professor Orr,” it said.

The four signatories to the protest are: The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Hobart (Dr. Guildford C. Young), the Rev. Hector Dunn, Minister of Scots Church, Hobart, the Rev. Mervyn Holly, of the Baptist Church, and the Rev. Michael Sawyer, of the Congregational Church.
