HORSE FLOAT IN MISHAP
Jammed Against Bridge
Six race-horses returning to Christchurch in a large horse float through the Lewis Pass yesterday afternoon were uninjured when the float and cab sustained very slight damage after the door had jammed against a narrow oneway bridge. The horses were being transported back to Christchurch after racing at Hokitika. The bridge on which the float stuck was over the Williams stream, between the Hope river and the summit. It has blind downhill approaches at either end.
The float operator, Mr E. J. Jennings, of Sockburn, said last evening that the accident was very slight. One of the doors on the cab jammed against the side of the bridge, and a corner of the float was also jammed slightly after coming in contact with the bridge railings. None of the six horses was injured, he said.
