V.S. Seaman Wins Raffle Prize

A lucky member of the crew of the United States Navy transport Arneb had a free dinner at the Clarendon Hotel last evening—the prize in a raffle conducted by the ship’s company at McMurdo Sound over Christmas. He is Seaman R. A. Richno, who was also allowed the choice o* a man or woman companion on his free “night out " He chose a man—one of his shipmates.

Seaman Richno and his friend arrived at the hotel promptly at 5 p.m. ,for drinks before dinner. The prize stipulated that the winner could nominate any choice of dinner dishes he cared and the accompanying wines and liqueurs. The hotel undertook to provide any dish ordered that it possibly could.

The hotel management also provided free theatre bookings for Seaman Richno and his friend to round off the evening.
