Bank Clerk Admits Theft Of £545
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 4. A 22-year-old bank clerk, Douglas Samuel Golding Smith, admitted the theft as a servant of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., of £545 m the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today. He was remanded for a week for sentence by Mr R. M. Grant, S.M. x _ ... The Court was told that Smith claimed the theft occurred after he had lost £455 through negligence and had tried to cover up —and then when he found * hls could not continue had taken £545, hoping he could more easily explain a shortage of £lOOO as a loss.
