First Air-Mail
Sir,—l note from information in the paper that the fortieth anniversary of the flight carrying the first official New Zealand air mail is to be re-enacted by a flight on December 16 between Auckland and Dargaville. I understand that a flight was made in Christchurch some time before this date, when Euan Dickson piloted the aircraft which dropped mail over the city. From memory I think the mail was marked as the “First Air Mail in New Zealand” and was flown late in November, 1919. If this is correct this Christchurch flight was actually the first mail-carry-ing flight in New Zealand.— Yours, etc., INTERESTED. December 4, 1959.
