OBSTRUCTION IN LAGOON
Survey Party Flying To Chathams Today (New Zealana Press Association WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. An R.N.Z.A.F. DC3 will leave Christchurch airport tomorrow morning for Hapupu airstrip at the Chatham Islands with a sixman survey party. The party is taking equipment to sweep the flying boat alighting area clear of obstructions so that Sunderlands can operate into the islands.
The airstrip at Hapupu was inspected on November 18 and the Civil Aviation Administration has accepted that it is serviceable. R.N.Z.A.F. men at present in the Chathams will make a final check tomorrow morning. The Minister of Island Territories (Mr Mathison) hopes the lagoon will be cleared of obstructions in time for the flying boat service to be resumed before Christmas.
