Golf RECORD SCORE BY THOMSON
Leading At Himtingdale (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Dec. g. Peter Thomson scored a record 63 at Huntingdale course, Melbourne, today to take a three stroke, lead in the first round of the £3OOO Coles 72-hole golf tournament from Dai Rees of Wales. It was Thomson’s sixth successive round of less than 70 and, including the Canada Cup, nine out of 10 rounds on championship courses in Melbourne. Huntingdale, 6941 yards long, is recognised as one of the tightest and most difficult in Australia. Len Woodward (N.S.W.) and A. Miguel (Spain) are running third on 73 and Kel Nagle, Sid Cowling, and Norman Von Nida (N.S.W.), Peter Allis (England) and Jack Harris (Victoria) fourth on 74. F. Buckley, of New Zealand, returned 81.
