CURRENT NOTES

Wesley Church Fair.— The annual Wesley Church flower show and Christmas fair was held on Saturday. Prize-winners were:—Blue ribbon premier rose and rose bowl, Mr A, H. W. Roberts; Rex cup for outdoorgrown flowers, Mrs I. Creighton; decorative and cut flowers. Miss M. Heighway; vegetables, Miss F. Pendrigh; children’s cup, Linda Crew. The show was opened by Mr A. A. Dingwall. Old People’s Party .—About 130 old people of the city were guests of the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council at a Christmas party held in St. John’s hall yesterday afternoon. The chairman of the council (Miss B. Webb) welcomed guests. Present at special invitation were the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning), president of the council, and Mrs Manning, members of the executive and the occupational therapy department. The charge therapist (Miss J. Videon) received the guests. The party was organised by the occupational therapy department and the entertainment committee of the council. The transport team of the council was responsible for bringing most of the old people to and from the party.

Catholic Homemakers.—A demonstration of hair styling and hair cutting was given by Miss P. Packwood at a recent meeting of the homemakers* group of the Catholic Women’s League. The league chaplain gave an address to members on the Holy Mass. A talk on home decorating was given at the following meeting and a recording entitled “The Hours of St. Francis” was played.
