MALE MODELS IN BRITAIN
Earning Up To £3OOO A Year “Any man between the age of 25 and 35 who has a good figure and a reasonably attractive face need not worry about starving in Britain these days. As a male model on commercial television he can earn anything up to £3OOO a year,” reports the latest issue of the “New Zealand Draper?’ “The only fly in this jolly ointment is that once the advertisers become tired of your face you’re out,” the journal says. “And how long does it take for this to happen? After about three to four years, according to the experts.” The usual fee for the male model appearing in front of the TV cameras, whether as a clothes horse or “beaming beer drinker,” was round £l5, and each time the advertisement went on the air, a further small payment was made, the journal says. “But to be a success you’ve got to like travelling. You’re liable to be whisked off to the south of France for a water ski-ing sequence, dr to Switzerland to pose as a happy mountaineer having Scotch on the rocks —or you can even end up in some store out in the provinces.”
