WAR VETERANS’ HOMES
Steady Demand For Admission (Neiq Zeatana Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. With the opening of the Levin home, the eight veterans’ homes administered by the National Patriotic Fund Board have a total capacity of 390 and an ultimate capacity of 435. The chairman (Mr C. O. Bell) told the board’s meeting today there was still a surprisingly steady demand for care of ageing war veterans. It was not a case of money, but a need for some sympathetic custodial care, he said. A Canteen Fund board report said the national homes and building committee had the discretion to fix rates of board for the homes, with a recommended limit of £3OO in assets before board rates were affected. Board was calculated so that in no case would a man be left with less than £8 a month and a former serviceman less than £lO a month.
