NEW MAYOR OF KAIAPOI
Swearing-In Ceremony Mr O. M. Williams, the new Mayor of Kaiapoi, was sworn in at the first meeting of the new Borough Council last evening. The deputy-Mayor. elected last evening, is Cr. R. Monk, who is also chairman of the reserves committee. The following committees were elected:— Works committee: Crs. T. C. Cross (chairman), E. H. Booker (deputy-chairman), R. Monk, K. O. W. Todd. L. M. Thompson. Reserves committee? Crs. R. Monk (chairman), R. T. Smith (deputy-chairman), T. C. Cross. K. O. W. Todd, K. Sinclair. Town planning, by-laws, housing: Crs. E. H. Booker (chairman), R. T. Smith (deputy-chair-man), K. Sinclair, L. M. Thompson, T. L. Williams. Electricity, library, municipal buildings: Crs. L. R. Peachey (chairman), E. H. Booker (deputy-chairman), T. L. Williams, T. C. Cross, R. T. Smith.
Harbour: Crs. T. L. Williams (chairman), R. Monk (deputychairman), L. R. Peachey, K. Sinclair, L. M. Thompson. Finance: Crs. L. M. Thompson (chairman), and whole council. Emergency: Cps. O. M. Williams (chairman) and R. Monk. The first motion passed by the new council was a decision to send a letter to the Kaiapoi Voluntary Fire Brigade thanking it for its action in extinguishing the fire which gutted a restaurant in High street early on Wednesday morning.
