MIGRATION TO AUSTRALIA
More Russians Wanted ADELAIDE, Dec. 2. The Minister for Immigration (Mr Alexander Downer) said today he Hoped that “small token migration gestures” by Russia would be followed by others of a greater nature. He said he hoped the establishment of the Australian Embassy in Moscow would mean a boost in Soviet migration to Australia. “But I do not foresee a general migration agreement with Russia in the future,” Mr Downer said. “Until now our requests for migration have been granted in a few isolated cases, while the number of persons in Russia wanting to migrate to relatives in Australia runs into thousands.”
