CHILD DROWNED AT GREYMOUTH
Body Found On Beach (New Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH, December 2. Christine Joyce Cain, aged 5 years 11 months, a daughter of Mr and Mrs Gordon ‘Cain, 57 Doyle street, Blaketown, was found drowned by her father on the Blaketown beach this afternoon. The child was missed for a short period from her home, and her father went to look for her. It was first believed that she had gone to a children’s playground in the area, but eventually Mr Cain decided to look for Christine on the beach, which fronts Doyle street. There, he found his daughter’s body near the water’s edge. He carried her quickly to an adjacent house, where Dr. W. H. Bird was called, but the child was dead. A relative of the Cain family, who was gathering driftwood, had noticed the girl earlier near the beach, and the Greymouth police tonight made an appeal for information from 'afiy other people who had seen the girl between 4.15 and 4.30. p.m, There were no suspicious cirsumstances, but further information would be appreciated, it was stated.
