INTER-SCHOOLS’ GAME

Christ’s College Leads At Dunedin “The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, Dec. 1. Christ’s College was strongly placed today at the conclusion of the first day's play in the annual cricket match with Otago Boys’ High School. Batting first on an easy-paced wicket, Otago could only make 113, and at stumps College had replied with 196 for the loss of six wickets.

The Canterbury Brabin tournament player, J. St. J. Parson, opened College’s bowling with his fast medium deliveries, but when he had little success with them switched to off-spinners at a little under medium pace. The result was a procession, and only J. Billcliff, who scored 34. and the Otago captain, P. C. Semple (20) looked confident. College’s openers, J. S. Baird and J. H. Burdon, played useful innings, and were content to wait for the loose ones without attempting to rush the scoring. Parson also was patient, but he drove with plenty of power. His 50 included a six off Billcliff’s medium-fast bowling. E. W. Ormond favoured strokes off the back foot in making a sound 32. Generally, the Otago bowling was erratic, but in spite of this, the College batsmen did not go for their shots as much as would be expected on the placid pitch. The match will be continued today.
