SALONICA IN GOOD TRIAL
Track Work At Wingatui "The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, December 1. An impressive trial by Salonica and a smart five furlongs by Master Ascot and Panoli were features of the track work under ideal conditions at Wingatui this morning. Ridden by the stable apprentice, E. E. O’Brien, Salonica was hard held to shade The Budget (H. T. Anderton) and a Harken gelding (B. J. Anderton), at the end of half a mile on the plough in 55sec. They ran the first furlong in 13 2-ssec. The stable-mates, Panoli (N. A. Dempsey) and Master Ascot (H. T. Anderton), finished together several lengths clear of Aroair •L. W. Hare). They ran the opening two furlongs in 25 2-ssec, and completed 1 five furlongs in Imin 6 2-ssec. ' Reshine (E. E. O’Brien) and Boawood (F. Henneberry) finished on terms at the end of half a mile in 53sec, the opening furlong in 13sec. The Era (B. P. Kennedy) and Basha Karen (P. J. Denton) sprinted from the three furlongs in 38 2-ssec.
Paper Clip (B. P. Kennedy) and Prince Ermine (H. T. Anderton) were given an easy task over a mile and a quarter, speeding up over the concluding stages. Sydtrev (G. E. Lowry) completed his work by dashing home the last three furlongs on the trial grass in 39 3-ssec. Panel (J. Wells) and Montrose *B. Blair) were given a similar task and they gave the impression that they could have improved on their time of 40sec.
