HUMANE SOCIETY MEDAL
Presentation To Mr W. J. K. Hart
A silver medal for bravery awarded by the Royal Humane Society was presented last evening to Mr W. J. K. Hart, of Prebbleton, on behalf of the society by the chairman of the Paparua County Council (Mr J. H. Weaver). The award to Mr Hart arose from a drowning accident at Lake Emma in July last year. Mr Hart was pilot of a plane and saw hunters fall through lake ice. He lande, commandeered a vehicle, drove to the lake and attempted a rescue by smashing through ice, supporting victims and teaching them to tread water.
The citation read by Mr Weaver spoke of Mr Hart’s “magnificent efforts.” Mr Weaver said he was proud to offer sincere congratulations for the award on behalf of the council and county residents. Councillors remained standing during the reading of the citation and presentation of the medal as a mark of respect to Mr Hart.
