Mr Skoglund’s Statement Criticised
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 1. “It is all very well for the Minister of Education (Mr Skoglund) to say that New Zealanders have done well in Australia and even hold top positions in the universities, but this only means that this country’s investment in their education is accruing to Australia’s benefit,” said Professor L. H. Palmier, chairman of the Victoria University branch of the Association of University Teachers of New Zealand, today. He was commenting on remarks made by Mr Skoglund at an official farewell for Mr C. E. Beeby in Wellington last night. Professor Palmier said that it was “high time New Zealanders were given sufficient appreciation in their own country to stop this drain on the national resources.”
