AIRPORT PROJECT AT MANGERE
Minister’s Advice To Auckland Council (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 1. The Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Mathison) suggested at Whenuapai today that Auckland “go ahead and do likewise” in referring to the fact that Christchurch had gone ahead and, with the Government, financed an airport when assistance from other local bodies was lacking. The Minister’s comment was prompted by a reference by the Mayor of Auckland (Mr K. N. Buttle) that he was confident “that with goodwill and full cooperation between the Government and local authorities in Auckland, a way will be found in the very near future to commence construction of the great at Mangere.”
