Ceylon’s State Of Emergency
COLOMBO, December 1.
Ceylon’s state of emergency, imposed after the assassination of the Prime Minister (Mr Solomon Bandaranaike) on September 25, is to be lifted this week, according to official sources today. The proclamation was extended last week to facilitate inquiries int othe assassination and to retain in force a decision to revive capital punishment pending the enactment of a law by Parliament. The inquiries into the assassination have been completed and seven people have been charged with conspiracy to murder. One of the seven, a Buddhist monk named Somarama Thero, has also been charged with murder.
