84 In £ll.OOO Cup “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, November 20. Eighty-four entries had been received for the principal event, the £ll,OOO Auckland Cup, when nominations closed today for the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting starting on December 26. The cup. will be run on the third day, January 1. Last year 113 nominations were received for the big race. The list this time includes three previous winners. Red Eagle, Yeman and Froth, and tile three-year-olds Desert Chief, Commodore Roberts, Kalamira and Donna Bella.
There are 40 horses in the main sprint, the Railway Handicap (third day) and 44 and 65 respectively in the Great Northern Derby and the Queen Elizabeth Handicap, the main first day events.
