Life-Saving CLASH OF DATES
National Body’s Explanation While the New Zealand Surf Council regrets that the dates for this year’s national surf lifesaving championships clash with those set down, for the national swimming championships, it is impossible to alter the surf dates now. This advice was received from the council at a meeting oi the Canterbury Surf Association The swimming dates were apparently set in. October, 1958. said the national surf body, but nc advice was sent to the surf association. The surfefs fixed theii dates, February 19 to 21, 1960 and sent a courtesy letter to the swimming body in June of this year. The first advice of the clash was contained in the answei from the swimmers to this letter The prime considerations ir setting the mid-February dates for the surf carnival were thost of accommodation, tidal dates anc other functions in Gisborni around that time, said the Nev Zealand Surf Council. After discussion of the coum cil’s letter, the Canterbury asso elation accepted this explanation Advice was received from th< Christchurch City Council tha January 29, 1960, had been se down.as the day for the associa tion’s annual street appeal. A new event, the paddle boar< races, will be held at this year’i carnival.
