HOTELS FULL IN AUCKLAND

“Phenomenal” Influx Of Visitors

(New Zealand Press Association> AUCKLAND, Nov. 12.

There was a phenomenal influx of off-season travellers to Auckland, said Mr H. V. Tremain, representative for the New Zealand Private Hotel Proprietors' Association on the New Zealand Travel and Holidays’ Association, tonight. “You cannot get a bed in Auckland tonight,” he said. “It was the same last night. Usually, from June to January, only 40 per cent, of the hotel beds are full.”

Mr Tremain said part of the reason was the start of the fast Qantas Boeing 707 jet services through the Pacific. They brought travellers direct from Fiji and from Australia. The relaxing economic situation in the country also helped bring more tourists in.

“But this has happened,” he added, “without the Government doing one thing toward the industry. It is just happening.”
