ABETTED TAX EVASION
Company Owner Fined £lBO (New Zeuiuno Fress Association) AUCKLAND, November 12. William James Meichan, proprietor of a private company, Sheffield Radio, Ltd., was fined a total of £lBO by Mr M. C. Astley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland today on charges of aiding and abetting in tax evasion by his company. The company itself was fined £lB. The company admitted nine charges of wilfully furnishing false returns of income from 1949 to 1957 and Meichan, its ownerdirector, admitted nine charges of aiding and abetting in this. The company’s tax deficiency for the period was stated to be £2071 plus £473 Social Security charges. Meichan was fined £2O on each charge and the company the minimum of £2 on each.
