U.A.R. AND CHINA
Deteriorating Relations

Mr Riad Kilany, the United Arab Republic's Charge d’Affaires in Peking, arrived in Cairo by air yesterday from China. He is expected to report to his Government on the attack against the U.A.R. and its policies made in Peking recently by the exiled Syrian Communist leader, Mr Kalid Bakdash. After Mr Bakdash’s speech, at a mass meeting in honour of the tenth anniversary of China’s Communist regime, the U.A.R. protested to China.
Chinese-U-A.R. relations have deteriorated sharply in the last week. The Cairo newspaper “Al Ahram,” reported last Sunday that China had recalled her Ambassador in Cairo to report on the situation.
The Cairo weekly magazine, "Akher Saa,” today alleged that the Chinese Embassy in Bagdad had organised the Kirkuk and Mosul “massacres” earlier this year.
Mr Kilany told reporters at Cairo Airport that on the eve of his departure from Peking he had a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister (Marshal Chen Yi).
He said that as well as boycotting the Chinese anniversary celebrations the United Arab Republic Embassy in Peking had not flown the Chinese flag-
