NEW FASHIONS IN LONDON
Maternity Styles Popular
Strange things happen all the time in the world of fashion. One of the strangest is the sudden invasion of maternity wear departments in London stores by dozens of women who are not “ladies-in-waiting” at all. according to the “New Zealand Draper.”
These customers are women who like the looser line and have realised that such clothes can be| bought more cheaply in the maternity wear department than. elsewhere. Designers have foi I some time been turning out • bright mother-to-be garments' which they have found have been' selling better than the more ex-1 pensive items. Another reason for the popu-. larity of maternity wear is that' maternity skirts can be let out by means of simple, adjustable zips which have done away with the former complicated devices.
For the genuinely pregnant woman the fashion now is for colourful skirt toppers rather than the usual maternity smock. But here again those not pregnant have swooped in, realising that the shirt toppers, being so colourful and cool, are just wonderful for beachwear.
