REFEREES FOR TESTS

Selection System Criticisetl (New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON. October 4. Disappointment at the system of appointing referees for fixtures with the British Isles team was expressed by Mr J. T. Voyle at a meeting of the Waikato Rugby Union’s management committee. Mr Voyle said it seemed wrong that the appointment of referees for tlie tests should be decided on how they suited the visitors. The referees should be appointed by the Neu Zealand union, he said. In Ins opinion the referees who refereed properly were sacrificed. The same tiling happened with referees who acted to suppress rough play Some protest should be made about the system of appointment and classification. lie said He thought Mr A L. Fleury, of Dunedin, who refereed the first test, was probably the most maligned man in New Zealand, and he probably refereed as well as any other referee the British Isles team had in New Zealand. ' The refgree who curbs rough play and obstructive tactics gets the axe," said Mr Vovle.
