Direct Shipments To Lyttelton

Sir,—lt was refreshing to read this morning that some enterprising shipping company is prepared to provide a freight service direct to Lyttelton from the United Kingdom. We have suffered long coastal delays in the delivery of cargoes into our warehouses through preference being given to North Island ports as first ports of call, and appeals to the Conference Lines of ships have been unavailing. This has been most detrimental to Christchurch and Canterbury generally, and I, for one, wish the new direct-to-Lyttelton shipping company every success and will guarantee to make the maximum use of this service as far as my cargoes are concerned.—Yours, MERCHANT.
