A woman was killed, another was critically injured and a nine-year-old boy was seriously injured at 3 p.m. this afternoon when the truck in which they were travelling was cut in half by a southbound freight train at Muriwai. The victims of the accident were:— Mrs T. E. Okiekie Ruru Pohatu, aged 55, of Manutuke, who was killed. Mrs Maioha Nukunuku, aged about 60, of Manutuke, who is critically ill, and severely shocked. Jackie Kaa, aged nine years, of Mauntuke, who lived with Mrs Pohatu and her family, whose condition is serious. Another boy, George Taiapa, aged 16, of Manutuke, escaped injuries. The party was travelling along the Muriwai Beach road to gather pipis. The truck was sliced in half and thrown 55 feet by the impact.
