WINTER WOOL SALE
Average 39d Per Pound Wool sold at the winter sale in Christchurch on August 21—the first Christchurch sale of the 1959-60 season—averaged 38.97 d per lb, compared with 27.18 d per lb at the 1958 winter sale. A return from the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association shows that the weight of wool sold rose more than one third—from 9138 bales to 12,253 bales, or 2,867,3781 b to 3,853,2211 b. The average price a bale was £5l Is 2d, compared with £35 10s 7d. The gross proceeds from the sale were £62s.6so—nearly double the £324,680 realised at the 1953 sale.
