Billiards SOUTH ISLAND TITLE

T. Yesberg Beats E. Simons T. Yesberg and E. Simons, both former Canterbury titleholders, provided the feature billiards game in yesterday’s play at the South Island billiards and snooker championships in Christchurch. Yesberg gave a very solid display, making the most of the chances left for him. Simons was unable .to strike form at any stage, frequently missing shots when he seemed set for big breaks. In the last hour of play. Yesberg steadily increased his lead and was an easy winner.

In a spree of high scoring in the main evening game, K. Murphy scored 703 against V. Choat's 415. Included in Murphy’s score were two breaks of 74 and a 57.

J. Clark, having greater experience. had little difficulty in taking G. Logan’s remaining life. In Clark’s score of 457 was a break of 50.

N. Prince, the present snooker title-holder, was eliminated yesterday when he was soundly beaten by C. Gardiner. Gardiner was in top form and did not allow Prince to settle down. He rounded off a one-sided display with breaks of 42 and 37 in the last frame.

R. Franks came from behind to beat R. Stewart in an exhibition of good open snooker. After losing the first two frames, he took the third, helped by a break of 46. In the last two frames he built up commanding leads to win easily.

T. Yesberg won handsomely from G. Cormack, 3 games to 1.
