CONFERENCE OF CONSUMERS

Council Programme Approved

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept. 23.

More than 150 delegates to the consumers' conference today supported the Consumer Council programme for setting up regional associations, and agreed to work for the widest possible membership. This was decided after the chairman of the council (Mr G. E. Wood) said that the Government intended to set up four regional councils that would cover the whole Dominion.

Initially, said Mr Wood, the national council would nominate three members of the regional councils, including the president, and the associations would nominate three members. It was hoped, however, that as the associations grew they would gradually take over the complete control of the committees.
